WHAT IS BIO OXIDATION THERAPY?
The chemical reaction involving oxygen is known as oxidation. Oxidation reactions can proceed slowly, such as metal rusting, or they can be rapid, such as fire burning. There can be no human life if oxidation reactions do not occur. Breathing oxygen is an oxidation process. In the body, some types of oxidation reactions are essential to life and health, while other are actually harmful. The body uses oxygen as a first line of defense against bacteria, viruses, yeast and parasites. Oxidation is also the process by which the body converts food into usable energy for work and growth. Free radicals, also known as toxic species of chemical oxygen, are now being investigated as the “final common biochemical pathway” in such diverse disease processes as cancer, heart attack and the aging process itself. When we use the principals of oxidation to bring about healing in the body it is called Bio Oxidative Therapy.
THERE ARE SEVERAL METHODS OF BIO OXIDATIVE THERAPY?
Several different methods of Bio Oxidative Therapy are now in use. Probably the simplest and weakest form of Bio Oxidation therapy is regular aerobic (“oxidative”) exercise. Bio Oxidation is the fundamental mechanism of “how” exercise improves health. While very helpful in preventing disease, exercise is often difficult or impossible to do during illness, especially chronic, debilitating or lingering disease. Bio Oxidation therapies are therefore used to accomplish similar goals, currently referred to as “Bio Oxidative Detoxification”. The most common techniques of Bio Oxidation clinically utilized today are hyperbaric oxygen, multiple step oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, and ozone therapy. Each of these has specific applications for which it is best suited. The most important physiologic or “natural” substance causing oxidation in the human body is hydrogen peroxide. Although it is naturally made in the body, hydrogen peroxide is considered a drug when used in Bio Oxidative Therapy. When administered intravenously, an enzyme in the blood called catalase splits the hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. A small amount of hydrogen peroxide can supply large amounts of oxygen to the tissues. Remember how hydrogen peroxide foams when you put it on a wound or cut? The foam is oxygen being produced by the action of the enzyme catalase on the peroxide.
IS BIO OXIDATIVE THERAPY NEW?
The intravenous use of hydrogen peroxide was first reported in the scientific literature in 1920. The use of hydrogen peroxide to generate oxygen in the body has been studied at many major medical research centers throughout the world, including the USA, Germany, England, Japan, Canada, Sweden, Russia and others. Between 50 and 100 new scientific articles are published each month about the chemical and biological effects of hydrogen peroxide. Dr. Charles H. Farr, first president of the American Board of Chelating Therapy and founder of the International Bio-Oxidative Medicine Foundation (IBOM), received a nomination for the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1993 for his research with intravenous hydrogen peroxide. IBOM Foundation currently publishes a protocol for the safe and proper administration of intravenous hydrogen peroxide.
AWAREmed Health and Wellness Resource of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina explains how does Bio-Oxidative therapy works?
Scientists are discovering that Bio Oxidation is far more complex and important than had been previously recognized. There are many theories about the different functions of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide in the body. There is a great deal of scientific evidence to support almost every one of these theories. Using oxygen, hydrogen peroxide is produced in the body in different amounts for many purposes. It is part of a system that assists in the use of Oxygen for breathing. It is part of the system that helps to regulate all living cell membranes. It is a hormonal regulator, necessary for the body to produce such substances as estrogen, progesterone and thyroid hormones. It is important in the regulation of blood sugar and the production of energy in cells. It helps to regulate certain chemical compounds necessary for brain and nervous system function. It is used in the defense system to kill bacteria, viruses, yeast and parasites. Both oxygen and hydrogen peroxide have been found to be important in regulating the immune system.

HOW IS BIO OXIDATIVE THERAPY ADMINISTERED?
Multiple step oxygen therapy follows a German protocol utilizing the administration of inhaled oxygen to maintain the blood oxygen concentration at or near 100% for a specified period of time, usually 18 two hour or 36 one hour treatment periods. The therapy is preceded by an injection of a Homeopathic catalyst designed to stimulate maximum use of oxygen for oxidative detoxification and/or immune stimulation. Various levels of physical activity may be prescribed with or after the treatment. The treatments are usually done two to three times weekly.
Hydrogen peroxide is administered as a very weak (0.0375% or lower) concentration of very pure (“medical grade”) peroxide added to either sugar or salt water solution, the same as is used for intravenous feeding in hospitals. The hydrogen peroxide is then slowly infused into a vein in the arm over one to three hours. It is painless except for a very small needle prick. Treatments are given daily for acute illnesses such as the flu, or weekly for all other chronic medical conditions. From one to 20 treatments may be recommended, depending on the condition of the patient and the problem being treated.
WHAT ABOUT SAFETY AND SIDE EFFECTS?
Over the past 50 years hundreds of patients have received intravenous hydrogen peroxide and thousands have received multiple step oxygen therapy without serious side effects being reported using today’s modern protocols. Earlier use of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide were noted occasionally to cause toxicity, including lung and eye effects and gas bubbles in the blood. These effects were reported with concentrations 100 to 150 times stronger than that used today. The IBOM protocol has eliminated most side effects of hydrogen peroxide today. Minor irritation of the vein at the infusion site is only occasionally found now, and this usually responds to adjusting the rate of infusion.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The expense of any therapy depends more on the type of illness being treated than the methods of therapy. More complicated illness requires more testing and treatment than do less ill patients. Much of today’s high medical cost is in the testing required to maintain quality and legal standards rather than in the actual treatment itself. Please ask our certified staff if you have questions about cost.
DOES INSURANCE PAY FOR BIO OXIDATIVE THERAPY?
This really depends on the specific terms of your insurance contract. Generally, insurance companies will NOT pay for medical care which they may classify as “not usual and customary”. It should therefore be assumed that insurance may NOT pay for Bio Oxidative Therapy. Check with your insurer or agent for the specific(s) of your policy. Medicare does NOT cover Bio Oxidative Therapy.
