What I Do

A Physician Who Looks at the Whole Person

Integrative and functional medicine that gets to the root — not just the symptom.

At AWAREmed, I practice integrative and functional medicine — a patient-centered approach that combines the best of conventional medicine with evidence-informed complementary strategies. My focus is on understanding why a patient is unwell, not just managing what they feel. I work alongside conventional medical care, not instead of it. All services are intended to be supportive and complementary. I do not claim to cure, treat, or prevent disease.

Functional & Root-Cause Medicine

I use advanced laboratory testing and clinical evaluation to identify metabolic, hormonal, nutritional, and physiological imbalances that may contribute to a patient's condition.

  • Comprehensive metabolic and hormonal panels
  • Nutritional and micronutrient assessment
  • Inflammatory and immune markers
  • Gut health and microbiome evaluation
  • Genetic and genomic considerations

Integrative Oncology Support

For patients navigating cancer, I provide supportive, integrative care designed to complement — not replace — conventional oncology treatment. This may include:

  • Nutritional support during treatment
  • Immune and metabolic optimization
  • Stress physiology and nervous system support
  • Quality-of-life and recovery support

I do not claim to treat, cure, or prevent cancer. All oncology decisions remain with the patient's licensed oncology team.

Hormonal & Metabolic Optimization

Hormonal imbalance affects energy, mood, metabolism, cognition, and long-term health. I evaluate and address:

  • Thyroid function (full panel, not just TSH)
  • Adrenal and cortisol patterns
  • Sex hormone balance (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone)
  • Insulin resistance and blood sugar regulation
  • Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), where clinically appropriate

IV Nutrient Therapy & Detoxification Support

Intravenous nutrient therapy delivers vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants directly to the bloodstream — bypassing digestive absorption limitations. This is supportive care, not treatment for disease. Formulations are tailored to each patient's clinical needs and health goals.

Common formulations:

  • High-dose Vitamin C (supportive use)
  • Myers' Cocktail (energy, immune, recovery support)
  • Glutathione (antioxidant and detox support)
  • NAD+ (metabolic and neurological support)

I also offer supervised detoxification and chelation support for patients with documented heavy metal burden or environmental toxin exposure. These protocols are medically supervised and individually designed.

IV therapy and chelation are supportive services. They are not cures and are not intended to diagnose or treat disease.

Transparency & Compliance

What I Do Not Claim — and Why It Matters

Ethical medicine means being clear about what we offer and what we do not.

✗ "I do not claim to cure cancer."

AWAREmed provides integrative supportive care alongside conventional oncology — not as a replacement for it. No claim is made that our services treat, cure, or prevent cancer.

✗ "I do not claim to cure or treat addiction."

Supportive nervous system and nutritional care may assist recovery journeys, but this is not addiction treatment. Patients requiring addiction medicine should work with licensed addiction specialists.

✗ "I do not guarantee outcomes or results."

Medicine cannot ethically promise specific results. Individual responses to integrative care vary. No outcomes are guaranteed.

✗ "I do not advise patients to abandon conventional care."

Integrative medicine works best alongside conventional medicine. I encourage all patients to maintain their relationships with their primary care physicians and specialists.

✗ "I do not make claims beyond what evidence supports."

All clinical recommendations are grounded in evidence-informed practice and comply with FTC guidelines for health claims in advertising.

✗ "I do not offer emergency or acute medical care."

AWAREmed is an outpatient integrative wellness practice. For emergencies, patients should contact 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

These statements reflect AWAREmed's commitment to ethical, transparent, and legally compliant medical practice. If you have questions about scope of care, please speak directly with Dr. Akoury during your consultation.

My Commitment to You

  • I will always be honest about what integrative medicine can and cannot do.
  • I will never advise you to abandon conventional medical care without clinical justification.
  • I will design a care plan specific to your biology, your history, and your goals.
  • I will disclose the evidence — or the limitations of evidence — behind every recommendation.
  • I will comply with all applicable medical, FTC, and advertising regulations.
  • I will treat you as a whole person, not a diagnosis.

"I became a physician to serve, not to sell. My commitment is to offer you honest, compassionate, evidence-informed care — and to always be transparent about what I know, what I believe, and what I do not claim."
